Collaborative Efforts in Thalassemia Screening and Awareness in the Maldives using the S-Monovette

Thalassemia has been a significant national concern in the Maldives, affecting many families and individuals. The Ministry of Health, HPA Maldives, and the Maldives Ministry of Education have taken commendable steps to address this issue by conducting continuous awareness campaigns. One of their key initiatives is a screening program for grade 10 students, aged 12 and above. This collaborative effort is designed to increase awareness, promote early diagnosis, and ultimately support the health and well-being of the next generation.

Blood collection was conducted at the N. Maafaru Health Center, overseen by Mr. Abdulla, the Lab In-Charge at Noonu Atoll Hospital. Mr. Abdulla has been responsible for managing the collection process during the screening program.

Naadu is proud to contribute to this important cause by ensuring a safe and effective blood collection procedure through the use of the S-Monovette system. Obtaining accurate and uncontaminated blood samples is crucial for screening thalassemia cases and for general blood collection procedures. The S-Monovette system not only ensures the safety of healthcare workers by minimizing the risk of needle-stick injuries but also guarantees high-quality blood samples necessary for accurate diagnosis.

We highly appreciate the dedicated team at Noonu Atoll Hospital for adhering to proper blood collection procedures. By utilizing the safety needle, multifly needle, and S-Monovette system, they ensure the highest standards of safety and quality in blood collection. Their commitment to proper techniques and procedures exemplifies the collaborative spirit needed to combat thalassemia effectively.

This collective effort between government agencies, healthcare providers, and supportive organizations like ours highlights the importance of community involvement in addressing public health concerns. Together, we are making strides towards a healthier future for the Maldivian population by promoting early diagnosis and comprehensive awareness of thalassemia.
